Cosmetics come with a wide range of packaging materials, and plastic containers rank among the most widely adopted options. For cosmetics OEM operations, a solid grasp of relevant expertise enables you to swiftly identify the optimal packaging solution, thereby boosting both the safety and market appeal of your cosmetic products.

Available materials for plastic cosmetic containers include PE, PP, PET, PETG, Acrylic, ABS, MS, PS, etc.

Based on their functions and manufacturing processes, these containers fall into three main categories: plastic bottles, flexible tubes, and cream jars.

I. Plastic Bottles

Common materials for plastic bottles include PE, PP, PET, PETG, Acrylic, PS, etc.

PP/PE Plastic cosmetic Bottles

PP/PE bottles are manufactured via extrusion blow molding. They are ideal for packaging a variety of cosmetics and daily care products, including toners, lotions, sunscreens, shampoos, body washes, and conditioners, and feature excellent compatibility with product contents.

The material offers great flexibility for easy squeezing, with a low-gloss, low-transparency finish that only supports translucent or solid-color designs. Custom colors are available upon request, and a clear mold parting line is visible at the bottom of each bottle.

Available accessories include screw caps, flip-top caps, spray pumps, lotion pumps, and oil pumps.

PE and PP molds are interchangeable, with a short development cycle (4 weeks) and low costs, making them an ideal choice for private mold development.

PET Plastic cosmetic Bottles

PET bottles are produced by placing preformed bottle blanks into a mold for one-step direct blow molding. They are commonly used for packaging toners, lotions, essential oils, cleansing oils, and shampoos, boasting good material stability and compatibility with product contents.

The material is rigid and highly transparent, and can be made into transparent, translucent, or solid-color finishes.

Low-temperature molding means PET bottles are not suitable for designs with overly small R-angles. For example, square bottles require a larger, rounded R-angle for optimal molding.

Available accessories include screw caps, flip-top caps, spray pumps, lotion pumps, oil pumps, and droppers.

PET bottles feature a short mold development cycle (4 weeks) and low costs, making them well-suited for private mold development.

Note that PET deforms under high-temperature filling: the filling temperature must not exceed 50°C when using PET bottles.

PETG offers exceptional transparency, on par with glass. It is typically shaped via extrusion blow molding or injection stretch blow molding, with good material stability, and is suitable for packaging toners, lotions, serums, and essential oils.

In particular, thick-walled PETG bottles boast a glass-like texture while being shatter-resistant, making them a premium choice for cosmetic packaging.

Airless Bottles

Airless bottles consist of a bottle body and a pump head. The bottle body is usually made of Acrylic or AS, while the pump head is a straw-free vacuum pump. With more components, airless bottles come at a higher unit cost, and are ideal for packaging high-end cosmetics such as serums, lotions, eye creams, and liquid foundations to

II. Plastic Cosmetic Tubes

Tubes are ideal for low-fluidity products, including facial cleansers, gels, creams, hand creams, eye creams, sunscreens, liquid foundations, and masks.

Made of PE, these tubes are soft for easy product extrusion and highly portable. Specifications are defined by tube diameter and shape:

Diameter options: D13mm, D16mm, D19mm, D22mm, D25mm, D30mm, D35mm, D40mm, D45mm, D50mm, D60mm

Capacity customization: Tube length can be tailored to product volume, with a capacity range of 3ml to 400ml

Shape options: Round, oval, or special-shaped tubes, with a variety of head designs including flat, pointed, lipstick-style, mascara-style, and massage heads

Available accessories include screw caps, flip-top caps, and pump heads. A trending accessory in recent years is the hanging chain, which allows the tube to be attached to a backpack for added convenience and visual appeal.

III. Cream Jars

Plastic Cream Jars

Common materials for plastic cream jars include PP, PETG, ABS, Acrylic, AS, and PS. PP, PETG, and ABS can be in direct contact with cream products, while Acrylic, AS, and PS require a PP inner liner (a two-piece structure) for direct contact with creams.

Cream jars are typically used for packaging cream-based products such as face creams, eye creams, and masks.

Matching caps are usually made of PP, ABS, AS, or Acrylic.

Cream jar bodies and caps are manufactured via injection molding, which involves complex mold structures and a long development cycle (2 months). The unit cost is high for small orders, so private mold development is generally not recommended.

A wide range of post-processing options are available for plastic containers, including printing, labeling, gold stamping, electroplating, spraying, and heat transfer. You can select the right process based on your product positioning and features.
